What is Direct Cremation?

Direct Cremation is simply the provision of a cremation with no funeral ceremony or fuss.

More and more people are telling us as funeral directors in St Neots, Huntingdon and St Ives that when they die, they simply want their bodies to be cremated. This might be for ethical, financial or practical reasons.

Our direct cremation service is fully transparent and carried out with dignity as if you were in attendance at all times.

The facility is available when death occurs in the St Neots, Huntingdon and St Ives areas, or in any of the following hospitals:

  • Hinchingbrooke, Huntingdon
  • Addenbrooke’s, Cambridge
  • South Wing, Bedford

If death occurs somewhere other than the above, we may be able to help you, subject to legalities, but please contact us for advice in this situation.

Once the legal paperwork is complete, the deceased person is collected from the place of death and brought to our chapel of rest in St Neots or Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. He or she is placed in a simple coffin and taken to Cambridge or Bedford Crematorium on a day to suit everyone involved. At the crematorium, the coffin is taken into the chapel and placed on the catafalque, from where it passes into the cremation area to be cremated.

After the cremation, the cremated remains (ashes) can be scattered at the crematorium, or we can collect them and return them to you. You may wish to keep them, bury them or scatter them. The choice is yours.

If you would like more information about direct cremation, please call us in St Neots on (01480) 471001 or in Huntingdon on (01480) 412938 or in St Ives on (01480) 573080 for friendly advice with no obligation.
